Anniversary Trip to Caswell Beach

We had one of the best trips to Caswell Beach and Southport for our anniversary!

We left on a Friday after work and we drive about three hours away to Caswell Beach.  Our best friends Chad and Jodi love this place and they thought we would too!  It turns out we did love it!

On Saturday morning we woke up and went exploring.  This is the view that we had when we walked out the door....

It was absolutely gorgeous!

We went exploring around that morning and ended up going on a very long walk...

We also explored some of the forts around where we stayed...

There was also the Oak Island Lighthouse close by...

We sat on the beach for half of the day...

I thought this was a neat looking picture...

We also saw a man catch a shark while he was fishing!  This was our "Jaws" experience!  Haha!

You better believe Jon went down to where the guy was fishing so he could check everything out when he saw that he had a shark.  It was neat to watch!

That night we went down to Southport for dinner.  Southport is such a cute town!

It's also where the movie Safe Haven was filmed.  (It's a great movie if you've never seen it!)

Here's the Fishy Fishy Cafe...

We didn't eat here, but you can see this restaurant in the movie.

We ate dinner at The Frying Pan.

It was delicious!  The hush puppies did not disappoint!

This was the view from our table...

After dinner we walked around and checked out Southport and all of the places where Safe Haven was filmed.  The town has little memorabilia frames with pictures so you can recognize what places are in the movie.

There were a lot of boats everywhere...

This is the house that the family lived in during the movie...

Some more of Southport...

We ended up seeing some dolphins follow a boat back to the docks here.  If you know me well, you know that I was thrilled to get to see dolphins!

After we explored for a bit we went to get ice cream at this place below...

We then decided to go to the boardwalk that we had seen earlier in the day.

A lot of people were there fishing...even this precious couple of seniors...

They were so sweet together!  Jon said that will be us when we get to that age!

I got a nice lady to take our picture...

After we explored the boardwalk we went over to a park to swing for a while...

This was our view from the swing...

and this was the park we sat in...

There were birds everywhere!  While we were at the park I had the strangest feeling that I had been there before in my life.  After talking to my parents, I think we decided that I had.

Here is the view of the park from the boardwalk....

and the view of the boardwalk from the back of the park...

(What do you think mom and dad?)

Later that night we went for a walk on the beach...

Jon caught a crab!

Isn't he cute?!

We also saw the special places that turtles would hatch out of their shells.  Caswell is known as the "turtle sanctuary".

The town is serious about making sure they hatch and make it safely to the ocean...

We also saw a little bit of a sunset...

The next morning we got up and headed back to Southport since we liked it so much, but first, I had to take a picture of the turtle sign!

We did stop to look at the lighthouse but they were closed and we couldn't go in.

So we took pictures and acted like we climbed all the way to the top!

We stopped for lunch at a place called Provision Company and it was delicious!

Jon had a cheeseburger and I had one of the best salads I've ever had!

Here we are again if you can make out our faces!

Jon realized after we finished our lunch that one of the places near where we ate was filmed in Safe Haven...so I just had to go snap some pictures...

It was so neat to see where a movie had been filmed.

Before we headed back home we stopped for ice cream...

No trip is ever complete without ice cream.  I don't think many people know just how much I LOVE ice cream....especially in waffle cones!

We also found some more Safe Haven memorabilia!

We headed back home that afternoon and decided to rent Safe Haven so we could see all of the places we had been to.  All in all it was a fabulous trip!  We enjoyed exploring a new place and celebrating three wonderful years of marriage!

We're ready to go back!

Hope you enjoyed coming on our trip with us!

Love,
The Preacher's Wife
